This file is used for Mac users. Since your OS is windows, you need to manually do the commands listed bellow.

Thank you so much, I got just some doubt about it in the beginning but I have done it.

Is there some way to speed up the simulation without turning fast-mode on? The normal simulation runs only with about 10% of real time on my computer which I find quite surprising, as it has a 2,5 GHz dual core CPU.
Because the simulation is so slow, I cannot make a video of the best performance as required in task 1 of exercise 3, because even if I tune down the resolution and quality to a watchable minimum, it still is over 40MB and about 15 min long.

Hi Norbert,
Running the simulation on a computer with a better graphics card may help (i.e., with a nVidia or ATI graphics card and up-to-date drivers installed).

I have exactly the same problem as Juan Miguel has.

Again, I cannot find your name in the license database. What e-mail address did you use to register your license? Did you already log on http://www.cyberbotics.com/my_account/login ?

I used the e-mail voegeli.urs@gmail.com and I tried to log in but it didn't work and said wrong password. I received an email where i had to activate the account but it said "This link has expired. If you asked for a new account, new password or e-mail change, please renew you request and proceed immediately with the validation link."
Thank you for checking

Dear Urs,

Can you try again to ask for a password reminder? I.e., enter your e-mail address at http://www.cyberbotics.com/my_account/login and press on the "click here" link to recover your password. You should receive an e-mail allowing you to set a new password. Let me know if it doesn't work.

Hi,

I cannot find any "Juan Miguel Garcia" in the student license list of the ShanghAI lectures. What is the e-mail address you used to register?

Hello,
I cannnot build the mini_dog_controller. The error ("There is no disk in the drive") pops out. Please suggest what to do? I attached the screenshot of the error.

Olivier Michel's picture

Hi Jekaterina,

This is the first time I see such an error. Did you use a USB removable disk or memory stick? I would suggest to move your mini_dog project on another location on your local hard drive (for example in the "My Documents" folder) and try to open it from there. Please let me know if that helps.

Hi Oliver,
no, I did not use any USB or memory stick, and yes, I have tried to load the project from different locations, but it did not help. However, today I tried the same thing again, and eveything works properly. So I think, it was a mysterious bug :) in my system, not the simulator's problem. Sorry!

It seems as if there is something wrong when I try to run the simulation of Excercise 2. I build the controller but when i run the simulation the robot only hops one time and then stops. Am I missing something?

Hi,
I have a problem with my license. The state in the colunm of "License in use" on my webots profile is "none". How could I get a license and change the state?

Olivier Michel's picture
5 years 7 months ago

Hi Hongwan Huang,

"License in use: none" means that you are currently not using any Webots license with your account. This is normal if you are not currently running Webots. Normally, if you start Webots, it should display that you are using your license. Please ensure that your Webots account profile displays "License rights: User of Webots (group: ShanghAI lecture students)". If it is the case, you should be able to use your Webots license. If not, let me know your e-mail address, so that I can check it in our database.

Thank you, Olivier. It works well. It was my fault, I forgot to activate my webots account.

Hi!!

I think I have some kind of problem with Webots, when I try to do the 2nd task of the Exercise 3, don't load the controller well and only load the void controller. What am I doing wrong?

I upload the video of my desktop to you to see step by step what I have done.

Olivier Michel's picture
5 years 7 months ago

Hi Pablo,

Apparently you need to compile also the "mini_dog_controller". This simulation has actually two controllers: one supervisor named "supervisor_controller.cpp" that you could compile and run successfully and a robot controller named "mini_dog_controller" that you didn't compiled (and hence Webots cannot execute it and it will use the void controller instead). To compile it, simply open the file "mini_dog_controller.cpp" as you did and press the "Build" button. Then, revert the simulation and everything should work.

Please let me know if that helps.

Ok it was my fault, I opened minidog-controller and supervisor-controler but only built supervisor-controller. Now the simulation works very well.

Thank you Oliver.

Hi, Oliver!

When I start a guided tour it fails with the following error (attachment #1).
I was able to start some simulations but all they look similar to what in th attachment #2.

Can you help with my problem?

I have Toshiba Satellite laptop, Windows 7.

Thanks in advance.

Ivan.

Hi Ivan,

My guess is that you have an Intel graphics card... Right?
Unfortunately, Webots doesn't work well with such graphics cards (as documented in the Webots user guide). Sometimes upgrading the driver of the card solves the problem, sometimes not. If it doesn't help, I would recommend you to try on another computer.

Oliver,

Thank you for the answer.

In fact I have ATI Radeon X1200 card. I've tried to install the latest driver but it has not helped. I think the problem is that my card cannot be qualified as "fairly recent" )

Can you please clear my license so I would try on a different computer?

Thank you.

Ivan.

Hi Ivan,

You are right, this card is pretty old and may be the cause of your problems. Since I switched to the new licensing system yesterday, you can easily move your license on any computer. It's not locked to a specific one.

Hi Olivier,

I'm running Webots on Ubuntu 11.04 installed via the 64 bit deb but having a strange problem, I can't see the menu bar at the top of the screen, that is the bar containing File, Edit, View, Simulation, Build, Tool, Wizards, Help as in the screen shot on this page http://www.cyberbotics.com/guide/section2.3.php

I can see everything else below that and the program runs but it means I can't register my licence or make videos.

Thanks for any help you can give.
Regards,
Derek

Hi Derek,

This problem usually comes from the Ubuntu window manager. Try to disable all the special of fancy effects in the Ubuntu window manager and this should solve the problem. If not, please let me know.

Hi Olivier,

Thanks for the help, problem solved.

I usually log in with Ubuntu Classic (no effects) so that I'm running without compiz because that causes me all sorts of problems (especially with matlab) but the Webots menus were still not visible, I'm not exactly sure what windows manager is being used instead.

However when I log in to the Unity environment the Webots menu bar is accessible via the desktop panel.

So the take home message is that the menus are accessible in the Unity environment and not in the classic environment. Hope that information is useful to you.

Regards,
Derek
